There are murder cases in our collective memory whose picture is incomplete. Cases where convicts continue to cry out their innocence or where the wrong person is prosecuted. Just as well there are cases where the accused are acquitted despite strong suspicions. The truth remains suspended in fog and doubt.

We know the legal truth: the court ruling. But it is difficult for relatives or by extension the general public to make peace with that truth. You get believers and nonbelievers.

In this series, we reconstruct seven murder cases where doubt has lingered despite a legal truth. Using archival footage and interviews with investigators, judges, defendants, relatives and journalists, crime journalist José Masschelin puzzles the story back together.
