B&L’s Fall Season: Full of Compelling Stories and New TV Shows

In a few months, we’ll be wrapping up 2026. The days are getting shorter, it’s getting colder outside, and the couch is calling out just a little louder in the evenings to stay and relax. It’s the perfect time to wrap up these last few months with some new and familiar shows on the screen. Find out below what’s coming soon to VTM:

Gevangenisdirecteurs (Prison Directors)

Belgian prisons have been under enormous pressure for years, and this program offers a unique, unfiltered look behind the scenes of prison walls. We follow directors such as Jo Hayen, Jolien d’Hondt, An Janssens, Serge Rooman, Koen Lambrecht, Marieke Peirsegaele, Petra Colpaert, and Ann De Meyer in their daily struggle to keep their institutions running and maintain human dignity.

From overcrowded cells where inmates sleep on the floor and turbulent days of strikes requiring police intervention to serious disciplinary hearings, escape attempts, and unique moments of hope in detention centers: the directors candidly reveal their reality. They grapple with the complex social issues within the prison walls, yet each and every one of them remains committed to the person behind the inmate.

Watch the series from October 19 on VTM GO+ and starting November 2 on VTM.

De Weg van De Wever (The Journey of De Wever)

From an unknown Flemish nationalist to the country’s prime minister. Bart De Wever’s political career is remarkable, to say the least. But who is the person behind the public image? And how did he make his way to 16 Wetstraat?

We see how, after the loss of his father, he helped shape the young N-VA and, through an alliance with CD&V, was given a new chance as party chairman. A legendary appearance on De Slimste Mens marked a massive turning point and led to the spectacular election victory of 2010. After 541 days of negotiations, a political defeat follows, after which De Wever sets his sights on Antwerp and becomes its mayor. After turbulent years and a major setback in 2019, an unexpected comeback follows: on February 3, 2025, he is sworn in as prime minister. Through interviews with friends, party colleagues, and opponents, this program seeks to reveal the person behind the politician.

Discover it for yourself starting October 13 on VTM GO+ and later this fall on VTM.

Vrederechters S3 (Justices of the Peace S3)

In this third season of Justices of the Peace, we once again catch a glimpse of the most pressing issues within our society across eight magistrate’s courts in Flanders. The judges witness rising intolerance among neighbors, conflicts between tenants and landlords, and the consequences of the rental housing crisis. More and more often, they hear stories of tenants who have to stand in endless lines and compete with dozens of other applicants just to secure a roof over their heads. Even in asset management cases, they see how vulnerable citizens repeatedly fall prey to online scammers and manipulative phishing schemes.

However, justices of the peace are not deterred by this. They are the very people best suited to navigate the different strata of society like chameleons. They weigh all interests and, where necessary, encourage the parties to compromise. They build bridges between neighbors and creatively arrive at practical solutions to rental conflicts. Every now and then, they take the plunge—or rather, put on their boots—to find solutions on the spot. This is the court where the law is made for the people, and the principle is: “peace if possible, justice if necessary.”

After three seasons, we’re familiar with the ins and outs of a justice of the peace court. Yet we’re still surprised as we discover new facets and responsibilities of this varied job. For example, we see that refugees can turn to the justice of the peace when, due to circumstances in their home country, they can no longer obtain their birth certificate. Justices of the peace are also called upon when a tenant passes away, to work with an estate administrator to determine whether there are any valuable items left in the rental property.

Watch the new season starting October 20 on VTM GO+ and starting November 4 on VTM.

It’s going to be an autumn to look forward to!
